STAR is an application which was initially developed in order to handle topology discovery and alarm management but by adding varied modules and purposes, its scope gets wider every year; and it is being used by Turkish telecommunication operator Turkcell since 2009. The application has started by discovering SDH and WDM topologies and projecting alarms on those topologies after root cause analysis. Today, while there are lots of new tools for these technologies, both IP layer and Radiolink layer are now in the scope of STAR, which enables it to handle Turkcell topology end to end. STAR is integrating data from different systems, in additionally, it shares its analysis results with many other systems on various integration points. STAR is not an only inventory discovery tool, but it is also a system that discovers live topology end to end, singularizes alarms coming from different sources, creates root cause analyzes by using complex algoritmhs, corellates alarms with topologies, processes quality alarms, reports KPIs, prepares SLA reports by region/customer/maintainer, makes impact analysis with multi-point of failures; therefore it connects lots of different departments by being a centrical product. With its functionalities, STAR replaced multiple products, whole network can be observed from only one source and data from this product is being used via other products aswell.
